Reconstruction of the
Bishop's Sutton 9-05-2005 formation

1. Draw a circle. Draw and extend the horizontal and vertical centerlines.

2. Construct the circumscribed octagon (regular 8-sided polygon) of circle 1, with the midpoint of one side coincident with the righthand intersection of circle 1 and the horizontal centerline, as shown.

3. Construct the circumscribed circle of octagon 2.

4. Draw the two rays from the center of circle 1 to the righmost two angular points of octagon 2.

5. Construct the inscribed circle of the triangle formed by rays 4 and the rightmost side of octagon 2.

6. Copy circle 5 to the righthand intersection of circle 3 and the horizontal centerline.

7. Draw a line from the upper intersection of circles 5 and 6 to the right, parallel to the horizontal centerline.

8. Construct a circle centered at the intersection of circle 1 and line 7, tangent to circle 5 at the near side.

9. Copy circle 8 to the righthand intersection of circle 6 and line 7.

10. Construct a circle concentric to circle 6, tangent to circle 9 at the far side.

11. Copy circle 10 to the center of circle 9.

12. Construct a circle centered at the intersection of the rightmost side of octagon 2 and line 7, tangent to circle 8 at the righthand side.

13. Copy circle 12 to the righthand intersection of circle 11 and line 7.

14. Circles 1, 3, 9 and 13 together make up the reconstruction of the formation.
