Reconstruction of the
2001 Lane End Down formation

1. Draw a circle.

2. Draw 16 rays, evenly distributed around circle 1, making angles of 22.5°.

3. Assume the rays are numbered, from 0 at the horizontal centerline on the right up to 15, counterclock-wise. Draw the connecting line between the intersections of rays 1 and 7 with circle 1.

4. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to line 3.

5. Draw the connecting line between the intersections of rays 1 and 7 with circle 4.

6. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to line 5.

7. Draw the connecting line between the intersections of rays 2 and 6 with circle 6.

8. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to line 7.

9. Construct the circumscribed octagon (regular 8-sided polygon) of circle 1, with the angular points pointing in the direction of the uneven numbered rays, as shown.

10. Copy circle 8 to the angular point of octagon 9 corresponding to ray 1.

11. Construct two circles concentric to circle 1, tangent to circle 10 at both sides.

12. Copy circle 8 another time, to the intersection of ray 1 and inner circle 11.

13. Construct the inscribed octagon of inner circle 11.

14. Construct the inscribed circle of octagon 13.

15. Construct a circle with its center at the intersection of circle 1 and ray 1, tangent to both rays 0 and 2.

16. Draw the connecting line between both tangent points of circle 15.

17. Construct a circle with its center at the intersection of line 16 and ray 1, tangent to both rays 0 and 2.

18. Copy circle 17 to the intersection of circle 14 and ray 1.

19. Extend all rays up to outer circle 11. Extend ray 1 up to the outer side of circle 15.

20. Turning back to octagon 9, draw the connecting line between the angular points coinciding with rays 3 and 7.

21. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to line 20.

22. Draw the connecting line between the intersection of circle 21 and ray 5 and the intersection of outer circle 11 and ray 10.

23. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to line 22.

24. Construct a (horizontal) line parallel to ray 0, tangent to circle 23 at the upper side, until it intersects extended ray 1.

25. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, passing through the intersection of line 24 and ray 1.

26. Construct a circle with its center at the intersection of outer circle 11 and ray 1, tangent to circle 18 at the near side.

27. Construct a line tangent to circles 8 and 26, both at the same side. Extend it up to circle 25 on the right.

28. Construct three circles with their centers at the intersections of ray 1 with circle 21, inner circle 11 and circle 25, all tangent to line 27.

29. Copy circles 28, 26, 18 and 12 seven times (eight times in total), and distribute them evenly around the circle, centered around rays (1), 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15.

30. Circles 1, 4, 6, 12, 14, 18, 23, 26, 28 and 29 form all necessary ingredients for the reconstruction.

31. Removing all parts not used and making black areas corresponding to standing crop (and the eight pairs of two circles outside circle 1 of flattened crop), finish the reconstruction of the 2001 Lane End Down formation.
